The Canadian Institute of Forests, founded in 1908, is the national voice of forest producers.  The institute represents foresters, forest technologists and technicians, ecologists, biologists, geographers, educators, scientists and others with an interest in forestry.  Their mission is to provide national leadership in forestry, promote competence among forest professionals and foster public awareness of Canadian and international forest issues.

Canfor is a leading integrated forest products company based in Vancouver, BC.  They produce primarily softwood lumber but also produce products like Oriented Strand Board, remanufactured lumber products, and specialized wood products.

This division has four areas of focus under the main office of the Ministry of Environment.  They are: environmental management, environmental quality, integrated pest management and flood hazard management.  Their environmental quality group assesses the impact of pollution from a wide variety of sources and ambient monitoring of the air, land, plants and water.

The Ministry of Forest and Range is the main agency responsible for the public interest in the use of provinces forest and range lands.  94 per cent of BC’s forest and range lands are publically owned and managed by the provincial government on behalf of the public.  The Ministry creates policies (with stakeholders) that encourage investment in the forest sector, while ensuring that forest practices are sustainable for future generation.  The Ministry’s purposes include productivity of resources, forest management, protect and conserve forests, planning the use of forests, create a competitive timber processing industry and, assert the government’s financial interests in its forests and range resources.

Forest Practices Board

The Forest Practices Board is BC’s independent watchdog for sound forest practices.  The Board provides British Columbians with objective and independent assessments of the state of forest planning and practice, compliance with the Forest Practices Code and the achievement of its intent.

Silva Forest Foundation

The SFF is a BC organization who has pioneered an ecosystem-based conservation planning approach that protects biological diversity and ecological processes.  They also assist communities and individuals to implement ecologically responsible human uses and develop community based economies.  They also plan ecosystem protection and use which includes the mapping and analysis of past, present and future ecosystems use.  The SFF creates plans and implementations for ecosystem restoration including analysis of current ecosystem conditions and the development of plans to help restore natural ecosystem character.  They assist in educating and training people in communities and First Nations, land managers and planners in the principles, techniques and skills of ecosystem based conservation and stewardship.
