Projects

Below are projects funded by SPEDC in the following categories: Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Business Develpoment, Energy, Transportation and Tourism with focus on Infrastructure in the South Peace Region of BC.

Agriculture

  • The Dawson Creek Auction Mart - $30,000 to go towards the rebuilding of the Auction Mart.

  • $20,000 of funding was contributed to create a Brand for the Peace Region in BC and Alberta. The Brand will help attract investment nationally and internationally to the Peace region’s agricultural industry.

  • SP Grain Cleaning Co-op (2013) - $50,000 - to prepare Terms of Reference for a RFP Feasibility Study for new market opportunities, and follow-up on the activities of the consultant.

Arts and Culture

  • Funded $20,000 towards relocating the pottery learning centre from Northern Lights College to the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre to support artists in the region. The funding saved the services that were going to be discontinued by the college leaving a gap in this local industry that provides product for tourists as well as local residents in the region. The Dawson Creek Potters Guild manage the new facility.

  • South Peace Community Arts Council (2012)- $4,050 - to host the Regional Juried Art Exhibit, a program of the Peace Liard Regional Arts Council, which rotates communities every year to help encourage, promote, support and stimulate visual artists in the Peace Region.

Business Development

  • Contributed $60,000 to Energy Services BC - the initiative was a three year project to assist businesses in northern BC to benefit from contract opportunities with the oil and gas industry.

Energy

  • A contribution of $20,000 was given towards a Bio Mass study.  The study was conducted through the City of Dawson Creek and would benefit the entire region.

  • Contributed $7,000 in 2008 & 2009 to assist Chetwynd and Tumbler Ridge in hosting their Annual Coal Forum.

Tourism

  • Contributed $20, 000 to Tourism Dawson Creek to conduct an impact study of the South Peace region.  The study was to compliment a previous one done for the North Peace as well to be used as a tool for further planning for the future in the South Peace region. 
  • $50,000 was contributed towards the Tumbler Ridge Museum Foundation to help promote a Regional Museum and Paleontology Research Centre for the Peace Region.

Transportation

  • Dawson Creek Airport ( 2012) - $10,000 - Completion of a "ticket pull" to assist airport management & potential service providers with reliable information as to who is currently using the airport, and when.
